I decided to make the most of my trip to Sicily so I signed up for 2 tours..."excursions" as Club Med called them.
Tour 1...
A visit to "Piayya Armerina". The description from the excursion booklet is...."A return to the past. Discover the fascinating Roman Civilisation through the 3.500- m2 mosiacs of the impreial Villa Casale, witness of the daily life during this period of antiquity".
Overall, it was a Roman temple that was destroyed and it is in the process of being restored. It was amazing. The guide was great. I was the only person that spoke English (the rest spoke French) so I had my own private guide.
Tour 2...
Ibla and Ragusa...2 cities very close to Kamarina. There were actually 2 other Americans on this tour. YEAH!!!! Catherine and Jennifer, sisters from NJ. I was so happy to meet them and to get to know them. They were a lot of fun. We had a great time touring and having dinner together. We too, had our own private guide. Our guide tried so hard to speak English, but at times, some words were prounouced incorrectly. Example...earthquake was earthquack. We tried not to laugh so she could see us.
The cities were beautiful and have so much history. We learned so much about the area, the "earthquack" and how the community rebuilt the 2 cities. After touring we had a wonderful Sicilian meal. It was delicious except the weird watermelon dessert. No one ate it. It was a little strange.
