Hello. I made it to Grado today. After a final night in Florence, I woke up this morning and started my trip to Grado.
A little bit about last night though...I met Liz, Mark, Joelle and Doug for dinner at La Goistra. This was a recommendation by Brett and also by one of Marks friends. It was the best meal ever. As Mark said last night....It was the best meal in the whole wide world. Those were his exact words.
The man that owns the restaurant is a Prince as well as his 2 sons. One of his sons works at the restaurant and one does not. As soon as Doug and Mark email me pictures, I will post a picture of the owner and his son...you will never believe what the Princes look like!!! It was a fabulous meal with lots of wine of course.
The next morning...today....I woke up and did my favorite run then I went to the Florence train station to catch my train to Venice-Mestre. I never realized how heavy my bag was until I had to lift it onto the train. Oh well, I did it, I had no choice. Jeff and Tracy...I still think I packed well for 5 months...only one bag...smaller than my huge red bag. Jeff, I know you dont believe me, but its true.
So, I made it to Mestre, and then transfered to another train to Cervignano and then took a taxi to Grado, Italy.
Grado is a tiny island, very close to Croatia. Its quaint, colorful and gorgeous. It's a small fishing island. It's relaxing and beautiful. It is a huge change from Florence and Rome. I am so excited to be here.
I start school on Monday. There are 7 of us in our class..all beginners, I hope. I walked around Grado today and found the school. It's in little rowhouse along the sea.
I think I might be the only American on the island. Barely anyone speaks English. I guess Im going to have to do very well in school.
Carmela, thank you for recommending the school and Grado. Now I understand why you loved it so much.
I will keep everyone updated on my schooling. Have a wonderful weekend.

My favorite part of the blog so far are the lists. They should be named and each time you come up with one, it should be a volume.
Life Lessons by Leslie volume 1
something like that.
Are you stretching?? I want to see the splits and a great toe point by the time you get back!!

Hey Les-
I am *so* proud of you for doing the bike tour, and really, really impressed! Those distances are amazing... It gives me hope that one day I too will be able to try one of those.
Grado sounds lovely. Looking forward to hearing more about your lessons. Teach us a few words in Italian, okay?

Hi Les,
I'm loving reading the facts list too. Although sometimes I'm not sure what you are talking about.
It sounds like you are really having fun and meeting a lot of people. I think I would like to be a fly on the wall during your class. I can totally see you trying out your new language. It makes me giggle just thinking about it.
I knew your butt would be sore. Hopefully you had one of those seats with the triangle cut out.
Much love to you!
Bobbi
Your trip sounds fantastic. So glad you are having fun. You will have to teach me some Italian for my puppy Luciano. I would like to start with stop biting and stop humping. Those would be most helpful.
Leslie, your trip sounds amazing! So jealous of your meal at La Giostra - it is my favorite restaurant ever. I love the Prince & his sons!!

Hi Leslie,
I love reading your blog and hearing about your adventures in Europe. It sounds like you are having an amazing time, and I am in awe of your bravery - going away for 5 months, riding ridiculous distances (uphill!) on a bike (in the rain!)... You are awesome! Please keep updating - your posts are inspiring!
