Day 2 agenda...
7:30 a.m. breakfast
8:00 a.m. riding begins
8:31 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. RAIN!!!!!
Yes, it rained the entire time. Not just a light rain...it was pouring...freezing cold rain. The weather was so bad, we couldn't even ride in the afternoon. Tuscany in June...rain...never! HA - Wrong!
Our entire group rode in the rain. This time we were prepared...dressed in rain gear, 5 layers, gloves and the best invention yet...baggies over your socks to keep your toes warm. We all had frozen hands and toes the day before.
The rainy, cold ride begins....The uphills were steep and long and the downhills were wet and curvy. In Tuscany, there is no such thing as flat ground. Never...it was either uphill or downhill.
I was able to learn my gears quickly on my extra small flat handle bar bike.
We all made it. We rode in the rain. We were all frozen when we met for lunch at medieval abbey. We had a private tour and lunch. Our lunch just happened to be outside (brrrr) so we ate quickly and then went into the church to warm up. Thanks to Doug....we also had wine. Yeah for Doug. Wine and warmth in the church. Was this allowed? I'm not Catholic so I didn't know...everyone was doing it, so I joined. It was perfect.
We then took our van back to the hotel because it was too dangerous to ride. It was still pouring.
That night we had a wine tasting dinner. Perfect ending to a freezing cold day. Even in the cold rainy weather, it was another great ride.
Liz, Joelle, Mark and Doug are all trying to get me to try to drop handlebars....we'll see...maybe tomorrow.
