Pictures...now you'll know why we don't want to leave Costa Rica

Today is Sunday, October 28...Leaving Costa Rica

Good morning. Today is our departure day and neither Lynnie nor I want to leave. It's been an amazing week. We met fabulous people, saw amazing local sites and just had an awesome time!

I'll update more details and more photos when I get home but I'll update a few photos so you can get an idea of why we don't want to leave.

The locals have a saying...Pura Vida...Pure Life...and it fits this area perfectly.

More to come soon....

Pictures from Friday Field Trip...check out the monkeys in the tree!

Class Field Trip to Avellanas

Today, our entire class with the instructors, went to another beach....Avellanas to surf. I didn't surf though, I just watched everyone else enjoy the waves. They were kinda crazy today though...but everyone seems to enjoy him/herself.

We left the camp at 11:00 a.m. and took 2 vans with surfboards tied to the top. It was quite the adventure. After we left, it started to pour. We still continued on our way. The roads in Costa Rica are NOT paved at all so we were going over, through and around HUGE potholes for our entire ride...about 45 minutes. By the time we got there everyone was a bit sick but the sun had come out so the sickness went away quickly.

Everyone did so well! It was amazing to watch. Again, I was carried along the beach to watch. About 2 hours later, it started to pour again so we all hung out in a very cool restaurant along the beach. We had some food then headed back to camp. Oh yeah...one of the vans broke down and we had to wait for it to be fixed before we could go anywhere. It was a true adventure.

Along our ride home, we saw monkeys in the trees. Very cool.

Tonight we have our "graduation party". It should be a good time. I have met fabulous friends here.

Tomorrow...everyone will surf again and I will hang out and watch again. It's been an amazing trip...2 more days to enjoy.

Canopy Tour...Zip Line!!!!!

Lynnie, Nicole, Nina and I took a canopy/zip line tour. It was amazing. We "zipped" about 11 times and flew over huge trees and we saw gigantic iguanas hiding in the trees. It was great!

Today is Friday, October 26th...no more surfing for me

Hi. Today is Friday and I'm sad to say that I can't surf again for the rest of my trip. I got hurt....but not on the waves. Yes, I know, pretty lame...not on the waves. Crazy.

How it happened....I had a great lesson yesterday afternoon and caught about 4 good waves! It was awesome!!!! I was so happy that I cheered for myself and jumped off my board and landed wrong on my right leg and pulled something in my calf. Ouch! One of the instructors actually had to carry me off the beach. Right now, a day afterwards, I still can't put pressure on my leg and I can't even walk. I have to hop to places or wobble along. Sometimes I still get the pleasure when some of the instructors carry me.

Lynnie is still surfing and doing really well!!!! She is amazing to watch. Everyone in our group is amazing to watch.

9:30 a.m. Thursday

It's 9:30 a.m. and I already went for a run along the beach with Jana (a new friend), had breakfast with Lynnie, Nina (a.k.a. Panda), Nicole, Rose and Jana (more new friends) and now I'm hanging out facing the water and relaxing. I have 1/2 hour before my next surf lesson.

It's been a great morning already. Hopefully today I won't get scared like I did yesterday. That waves don't look so big, so that's good for me today. Today Lynnie and I have Johan as an instructor. That's good and bad...well...nothing is really bad here...I should say scary for me. Johan just throws us into it and says go! It's a great way to learn and you have no choice but to get out there.

I'm going to try to get up on a wave before it breaks today. I swear I'm going to try!

After our lesson, Lynnie, Panda, Nicole and I are going on the Canopy tour....the zip line tour. I'm excited. It's going to be another great day.

Pictures from the Animal Rescue Park

Lynnie and I went to the Animal Rescue Park. This is truly a wonderful place. The Animal Rescue Park is non profit and their goal is to nuture sick and/or injured wild animals back to health so they can be realeased to the wild again. If the animals had too much human interaction then they can not be released...they will always have a home in the Park.

Jorge was our guide and he was amazing. The animals loved him, especially Margarita, the monkey. She would reach out of her home and hug Jorge every time he came over to say hello.

It was a fabulous afternoon.

Surfing!

Lynnie and I have had 3 surf lessons so far. We started in the white water and then have been working our way up...trying to catch the wave before it breaks. Lynnie has been doing really well but I'm still a little scared. Each day we get a little better.

Yesterday the waves were bigger and the biggest for me. We got into the water easily and started to paddle out so we could learn to catch the waves before they broke. Since the waves were big I decided to paddle out a little more so I could go over the waves and then I realized that I was all by myself with no one around.

I was really far out....alone...no instructor, no anyone. It was a feel strange feeling...a little scary yet a little cool at the same time.

I realized I was too far out when my instructor, Carlos, came out to get me and said, "Leslie...too far out...too big of waves..let's go closer." That's when I got a little scared. Oh well. I tried to pop up on some big waves but got slammed a little bit. Lynnie did really well! She rode the waves a few times. It was great to watch.

Surf Camp in Costa Rica with Lynnie, October 21 - 28, 07

Hi! Today is October 23 and my sister, Lynne, and I are in Tamarindo, Costa Rica at Witch's Rock Surf Camp. Marisa and Galit (from trapeze) have both been here, loved it and recommended it so that's why Lynne and I are here.

No, neither Lynne nor I surf but we're here. I know, I know (and those that know me) know that I'm deathly afraid of waves and those that know Lynnie know that she is deathly afraid of fish. So...overall...we're a great team to surf. The poor instructors.

Lynnie and I met in the Miami airport and flew to Liberia, Costa Rica together. We were so excited to see each other, we hadn't seen each other since I've been back. It was great.

We arrived in Liberia and were met by a transportation person from the camp. We took a very old, beat up, falling apart, smelly, no a/c van to the camp. It was about an hour ride. We were so excited to get started!

More to come...Lynnie and I are going to take yoga. Again...those that know Lynnie and me...we don't take yoga, but now we are.

Oh, for those wondering... WE DID SURF AND DID POP UP on our first day! YEAH!

Pictures from Trapeze!

I think I have some pictures....mainly videos. I have to figure out how to post videos to the blog. I actually did an uprise forward over! Yeah. It only took me about 5 classes not to be a chicken and to really flip, but I did it. I didn't catch it but Hal and I did slap hands....almost!
